height Image Required — See the overview for the node's documented behavior.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultAnimatableRange / optionsEffect
Mode Enum Both Not declared Concave · Convex · Both Selects the mode behavior; each option changes the operation described in the overview.
Radius Scalar .0078125 Not declared Hard .0005..0.25 · UI range: soft · Step .0005 Local control documented by the production node behavior.
Strength Scalar 1 Yes Hard 0..4 · UI range: soft · Step .01 Animatable control; changing it over time varies the node response.
Edges Enum Clamp Not declared Clamp · Repeat · Mirror · Black Selects the edges behavior; each option changes the operation described in the overview.

Outputs

mask Image The production node output described by the overview.

Usage

In practice

  • Connect a height image and choose Concave, Convex, or Both to extract cavity detail.
  • Adjust Radius and Strength before sending the mask to Colorize, Mask, or a Material Output channel.

Examples

These examples show Cavity / Curvature in supplied VFX Loom graph setups. Each graph link opens the corresponding node reference; the explanation below the media is specific to this node's role in that setup.

Material surface maps

A compact Material graph turns procedural noise into colour, roughness, normal, and cavity inputs for Material Output.

How Cavity / Curvature contributes

Cavity / Curvature extracts local height detail as a mask for the material graph.

Notes / limitations

  • Cavity / Curvature is a Material processing node; Edges controls how neighbouring height samples are read outside the image.
